In the future, methods for measuring indoor radon concentrations in new apartments will be strengthened.
Construction companies must measure and record the average radon concentration every hour and submit it to the local government.
The National Institute of Environmental Research announced on the 28th that it will announce a revised indoor air quality process test standard that includes these contents.
This revision was made to address concerns that indoor radon concentration measurements in new apartments varied depending on the measuring agency, reducing reliability.
Under the new standards, construction companies must report raw data on the one-hour average radon concentration recorded during the radon measurement period to local governments.
Radon measurements are usually conducted in a closed space for 48 hours, but there have been criticisms that construction companies can conduct 'measurement tricks' by ventilating the space intermittently.
Accordingly, the academy decided to increase transparency by requiring the submission of raw data on average radon concentrations per hour in addition to measurement results.
The maximum number of households for radon measurement was also increased from 12 to 20.
Because the measurement time for radon is longer than that of other indoor pollutants, the number of households measured was small. However, in the future, the number of households measured will be expanded to the same level as other pollutants.
